A group of over 340 people who lost their jobs when a caravan manufacturer based in Hull went bust more than a year ago will share £1.5m in compensation.

The company, Atlas Holiday Homes, entered administration in December 2008 after the demand for caravans dropped off.

Trade union Ucatt took legal action on behalf of the former employees, alleging they had not received the statutory 90 days’ notice of redundancy.

The compensation awarded is the equivalent of 13 weeks’ pay for each person.

Simon Field, a former worker at the factory, said after the ruling: “I think it’s great news, I think we deserve it.

“We were left in the lurch at Christmas.”

No win no fee lawyer Nathalie Stewart, who worked the case, said: “They weren’t given any notice that they were being made redundant on that day.

“They were dismissed immediately.”

Dave Oglesby, spokesman for Ucatt, commented: “It’s been a long time coming, it was 2008 when our members were locked out from the factory.

“It’s been a great victory for us in terms of getting justice for our members.”

The claim for compensation was brought against Atlas Holiday Homes.
