Judge Gerald Chalk sentenced Tickner to a 12 month community order, placed him under the supervision of the probation service and ordered him to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. He said that Tickner represented a breach of trust, as it had taken place within the family home, although the violence was not at the “highest” level.

Tickner was also ordered to pay £100 to his estranged wife.

Although David and wife Steph were separated, they were living together in their home on Beverley Rise, Harraby, when he returned home on December 19th.

As Mrs Tickner attempted to make her way upstairs there was an altercation between the pair. She had friends in the house.

Adrienne Harris, prosecuting, said: “Tickner followed her and grabbed her on both of the arms, pushing her into the bedroom.”

Before police arrived he then swore at Mrs Tickner’s friends.

Defending, John Smith said that this was “very much a less serious example” of this type of offence.
