Footballer Jimmy Bullard has launched a compensation claim for £2.5m from Hull City over his dismissal by the club in 2011.
The 33-year-old was sacked following an incident at a pre-season training camp in Slovenia. At the time, Bullard had two years left to run on his contract, and the amount he is claiming is what he would have received had he stayed at the club, minus his current wages.
Recently, Bullard’s case was heard at court to consider the grounds for his appeal.
Although details of the Slovenian incident have not been disclosed, it is believed that Bullard breached the club’s disciplinary code and this led to his dismissal.
Hull City paid a club-record £5m for Bullard when they bought him from Fulham FC in 2009. It is believed that he was paid £48,000 per week by the club.
Since his dismissal, he has joined Ipswich Town and is believed to be paid around £20,000 per week.
Bullard initiated legal proceedings shortly after his dismissal from the club.
ALthough Hull City and Bullard have remained tight-lipped about the affair when speaking in public, Hull City have said they are “of the opinion that the company has a valid defence” in regards to the midfielder’s claim.
