An Australian man faced with the loss of his eye after being glassed at a pub has been awarded more than AUS $67,000 (£38,379) in compensation.
Luke Shane Knight was at the Greenbank RSL in Brisbane in December 2007 when Guy Johnathon Bierton threw a glass at him during an argument. The glass shattered and fragments lodged in Mr Knight’s eye.
He was rushed to hospital where he had to undergo surgery, but the attack has left him almost completely blind in his right eye. He will require a prosthetic eye within two years.
In a judgment from the Beenleigh District Court, Bierton was ordered to pay Mr Knight criminal compensation.
Bierton pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm in 2008 and was sentenced to three years in jail, suspended for nine months.
