Personal Injuries

The accident occured due to the removal of a piece of wire that was temporarily holding the traffic barrier in place, according to the Sheffield Star.

The barrier suddenly fell down rapidly and crashed through the windscreen of her car and into her face. Mrs Richmond subsequently lost the sight in one eye, as well as her sense of taste.

The racecourse, which recently underwent redevelopment at a cost of £34 million, was fined £25,000 plus costs at Doncaster Crown Court after owners Doncaster Racecourse Management admitted two breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

But reports say that Mrs Richmond is planning a compensation claim against the company, with her son saying she had been “on a long hard road” since the accident.

She still has panic attacks over the incident, he said, but she has been able to resume driving and walks her dog near the area.
