The driver of a tourist jet boat involved in an accident which killed a British tourist has been ordered to pay compensation of NZ $25,000 (£11,700) to the victim’s family.
Jeffrey Donaldson pleaded guilty to operating a vessel in a manner causing unnecessary danger or risk, after the boat flipped, killing Paul Joseph Woods, a doctor from Liverpool.

The Invercargill District Court in New Zealand ordered Mr Donaldson to pay compensation to the family, and he was also fined NZ $2,500 (£1,170).
Dr Woods died when the tourist boat became grounded on the Matukituki River on New Zealand’s South Island in December, 2008, killing Dr Woods and injuring two other passengers.
