It is thought to be one of the biggest ever personal injury payouts in Northern Ireland.

Mr Griffin, who resides in Waterford, made a compensation claim after the car crash which also claimed the lives of two people.

His claim was brought against the driver of the car in which he was a seat-belted passenger.

Liability for the accident was never in dispute, and the amount of compensation was eventually agreed with the defendant’s motor insurance company.

Mr Griffin had a promising career as a singer and at the time of the accident he was a member of County Fermanagh-based boy band Idolize, who were due to perform as supporting acts for Westlife and Girls Aloud.

When the head-on collision with a motorcyle occured, the car he was in with the rest of the band was travelling along the Glasgow to Stranraer road to catch a ferry back to Northern Ireland.

The legal action was initiated in Northern Ireland because the driver is from Omagh, County Tyrone.
